6th day twistout- The Random Good Hair Week Phenom!

My hair for whatever reason has decided to behave himself/herself ( I think I should name my hair now..to give it a proper gender... ) SIX days (technically) after a stretched twistout. Here's a bit of a time line:

So I did a regular Wash and Condition, nothing fancy.
Doo Gro Tea tree oil on my scalp, Cantu Leave-In on my hair.
8-10 braids ( I dont remember how many!)
Squished some water based oil moisterizer thru the braids.
Pulled and them and pinned wherever they strecthed to on my head. See Curly Nikki Stretch Method.
Donned a cute slouchy beanie ( with satin scarf underneath! )

Day 1 Left the braids in for 24hrs. Unbraided, went to my company Holiday Party. The party sucked, but I looked Fab!!

Day 2 ( sunday I wore it pinneappled and stayed in the house all day sick. Womp Womp. ) So this day kinda doesnt count.
Day 3 Work day! I ponytailed it because I was not feeling well still, and I wanted my hair to cover my ears a bit. :) #Sikkyladyhair

Day 4 and 5 Work day, out, pinned up the top. It was a little dry and I was determined to wash it... buttt... I fell asleep early. Oh well.

Day 6 (Today! Yay! )

How long do YOUR twistouts last? What is your secret?! : )

BABO OWWW! ( Bomb A** Braidout )

Ni Hao Bella-chulas!

( I love mixing languages into nonsensical greetings lol )

So last night ( I know I'm sposed to be Bunnin' and GOC'n and all this) my hair was feeling dry and oily. :( I had made a WNG (wash n go) last for 3 days.. and it was cute, since I had my stylist give me a hydration treatment, I wasnt as fuzzy frizzy as I usually am. So it was fiiine; until I decided to play in it at work. Womp Womp. Yeah... and you know how you picture the worst happening when you're doing something you're not supposed to do.. and it HAPPENS? Exactly. There I am, bunnin and rebunnin, and then re-rebunnin in the mirror just loving on my hair in the bathroom mirror, and POP. Enter the sad clowns. Of course I had no backup and had to run, head-down with my crazy bush curls back to my office so that I could pray over my purse for some miracle hair pins.

Finding TWO hair pins ( Thank you Jesus) I was able to re-semi-bun.. but it was messy and I did not feel my prettiest. SIGH. So back from the tangent story time - I say all this to say, I did a BOMB twist out!

Here's what I did: ( And this will now be my regimen. So help me Harold.)
  • Condish washed with Aussie Moist conditioner.   Scalp massage. Rinse lightly.
  • TreSeme Perfect Curls conditioner for added slip and then light finger detangle/twist under the shower stream 8 twists.
  • Shower time business while this sits. (2 min) Rinse lightly, and then cold water rinse leaving some condish in on purpose.
  • Gently but firmly squeeze  dry with HANDS - no towel
  • Olive oil cream butter ( My hair lovves emollients)
  • Warm blow dryer blast on each twist, gently stretching each twist, applying Ashea Shea butter (dry butter for shine and moisture lock in)
  • retwist each twist for "dry twisting" effect. Hair is still slightly damp.
  • Slept with no scarf, on a zip-on satin pillowcase, looking like Kizzie the runaway. Good thing I'm single. :)
And that's it! I woke up, still very Kizzie-esque but applied more emollient to refresh hair. Twists are fully dry. Oiled scalp with blue magic ( haha - the herbal one with NO mineral oil! ) and tied down the front with a scarf and put on a hat to trap in heat for the hour it takes to take the kids to school.

Once the kiddies were delivered safely, I went home, uncapped and descarfed and untwisted with a little coconut oil on my fingers ( Jeez I use a lot of shiny products! ) and VIOLA:

BEST DARN BRAID OUT EVER! I'm getting good yall!! Sexual Chocolate!

Getting better at combatting the frizzies! :)

Sooo I'm not the happiest...

Last night I conditioner rinsed and retwisted for the interview with a recruiter I thought I had this morning. ( Turns out it was passed Baltimore, at the state line almost into Pennsylvania!! Sorry... no. ) I did what I learned this weekend, twisted down, close to my head. Even did some tighter, smaller twisting around the crown of my head to prevent the "frizzy around the beginings of the braids" look. Here are my results:

So it looks cute right? No. I'm not happy because I did my hair DAMP.. NOT wet. I towel dried and everything. Sat under the daggon dryer for weeks last night! lol (Well ok. 45 min) But then AGAIN for (25) min this morning! STILL had damp curls that refused to stop frizzing with every touch - of all plaaces - in the BACK. the front was completely dry and behaving. THATS why this picture is cropped. The back is mostly frizzy curls, saved by the fact that this is the curlier, more 3c part of my hair. Still. I was very irritated to find that 9 hours of air dry time - including 1 hour and change (my math sucks)... and it was STILL wet??! Maybe my hair is TOO thick. Maybe henna is a bad idea since its supposed to thicken the hair and weigh down the curl. My hair is finely textured actually.. just dense and packed. SIGH. Hurry up curl formers.

FAIL, of the Epic porportion (10 braids, Rolled Ends)

So I tried the 10 braid dry twist out, inspired by CurlyNikki and Napptural85. Before you judge me, and say I didnt do it right, here's what I did!:

- Sectioned my hair into 10 braids and detangled before braiding.
Minimum shedding, which was good. A lot of finger detangling ( since the last style was equivalent to straw curls- which is my natural curl diameter)  and use of a wide wiiiiddde tooth comb.

- Used Aussie Moist Shampoo and Deeeeeeep Conditioner on each section, smooshing the product thru and rebraiding each section.
Review: The shampoo took a bit to lather but it was not runny and smelled nice. I think non runny is good because at least it means it IS a moisterizing poo. The Deeeep Conditioner... #nolove. It was runny and didnt take much at all to saturate my hair - but there were parts of my hair that felt stiff and dry after I rinsed. I rinsed with warm water first and then with cool. What gives? I stood in the shower and froze my buns for nothing?
Next up to try : Aussie Moist Conditioner ( the regular one)

- MissJessies CurlyMeringue
Or whatever the name of that stuff is. I smoothed it onto my twists to give my hair some moisture since my deeeeeep consdition left my hair feeling brittle and wierd in some places.  #FAIL again. It did NOTHING.  It smelled nice but was probably meant for looser curls. I should have just stuck with the purple one in her line called Curl Creme. I also added some Doo Grow Tea tree oil to my scalp since its an old staple of mine. It really does well with hair growth and scalp maintanance in the cold/dry weather.

- Rolled the ends
I didnt find the CurlFormers in the Pink Beauty Store, I need to go look in a Sally's this weekend. Most likely tho, my impulsive nature will have me purchase them online probably 40 seconds after I post this. Or less. I really cant wait to try them!! Anyway, instead I used regular perm rods, with the little rubber string on them and the cap, and combed smooth and wrapped my ends around them. I even did the Tshirt wrap up to sleep in, because Napptural85 is right - there is less frizz and more drying over night than a towell wrap provides.

-Woke up DAMP
UGH! My hair was still damp 7 hours later. Not soaked, but definitely too damp to hold any curls from the perm rods, and barely showed any bendage from the twists. So my twist out was baggy and wavy instead of uniform... and frizzy since it was being handled before dry. I tried to hold the twists in place and blow dry them... eh... no such luck.

I wont picture the hairdisaster here, but let it be known I had to rock the quick fix  "It Aint Come Out Right" do'... which is a pin up with a Amy Winehouse bump in the front, and optional head bands to give it texture and make it look purposeful.
