....So I just heard from my recruiter that (And she's the BOMB too!) I am up for consideration for a work from home job. I'd be starting off a little lower than what I make now, but that's just the base pay. There are oppurtunities to make more based on the work I do, and there's a 3-5% increase every year. Plus bonuses. So what's the catch? Yep. Of course there's a catch. I have to work Tuesday - Saturday. 9-5. UGH. Honestly, it doesnt sound too bad. Who's gonna be working on a Saturday ANY way? I mean, I have on-call duties here, where no matter when the attorney's wanna work, be it 9pm on a tuesday night or 3 am on Sunday... I have to help them as soon as I can, and I'm responsible if I dont. Now THAT sucks more assoline than it sounds like, because even though I dont get called very often, I always have to be on guard. 24-7. Cant go out of town for that whole month. Cant sleep without the Blackberry next to me. Cant forget to check it every morning. Cant just let the Helpdesk get some of the tickets that are easy. Gotta be home or near my cell phone at all times. And then when I do get called, its always some impossible ticket that takes at least an hour to realize its impossible. Then, it will be "High" priority, from some dumb ass who cant even answer the phone when I call them back to address said "Emergency" ticket. I'm up at 2 a.m. leaving voice mail messages!
So anywho.. back to the potential job. The problem I'm facing now is - should I jump on this job because its a rare oppurtunity to work from home? Here are the pros and cons ( this always helps me!! )
PROS
MIGHT be able to bring Nick home and save $200 per week ( $10,400 yearly savings!!!! )
Wont have to pay for after care for Justin ( or will I?) ($800 yearly savings)
Be home so I can sleep in
Dont have to buy work clothes anymore
No more commute ( saving $3,480 a year ) Not including GAS.
I'll have plenty of time to Freelance and write my books!! Yay extra income and portfolio building!
Less Stress - maybe
Saving $20 per week on lunch - ($1,040 yearly savings)
We could have another baby, because I'd be home and on bedrest.
I'd be home and not on that damn metro all hours of the night.
No on-call !!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!.... !!!!!!!!
Might get another blackberry so I dont have to pay a cell bill! (Another $100 per month saved!)
CONS
May NOT be able to bring Nick Home, might be too busy
May be so busy cant leave home that early to get Justin
Last time I stayed home all day...Every day... I went a little nuts. PPD is not a joke.
I have to work on Saturdays... wahhhh!
Base pay + commissions sounds fishy. What could I do MORE of to get more money? It's help giving on demand people! I cant fix what aint broke!
Since I'm taking a paycut, would we be able to afford another baby?

Deciding Factors
- Actual Work Load - I need to know why the employer is calling this a Fast paced, high demand position. I've been in IT for 5 years. Aint nothing fast paced about fixing things, and working from home, there ISNT going to always be stuff for me to do. Unless she has me doing some off the wall, not really IT stuff. I need to know what type of software I'm responsible for knowing, because I can learn it very quickly, but I need to know what I'm up against. I'm not trying to move from "hate my job" to "stressed at my job that I cant afford to quit right now"
- Salary - Since the Recruiter is still playing ball with the figures, salary is a factor too.
- Other Oppurtunites - It also depends on what else is out there. I jumped into this job because of the salary and thats ALL. If I had researched the job and gotten more info on it, I would have found out about "on-call", "overtime", bonuses and other quirks disguised as perks that I hate. Also, if I get this freelance job as a writer for this website, that would be a huge plus for me to have while working from home. Extra income that I dont have to search for, yay!
- Benefits. They need to have Kaiser, or some way for me to keep my Kaiser benefits. BIG factor.
Ah me. Why is everything a HUGE decision. ALL the time with me?

So have we made a decision yet? The commission based pay sounds fishy to me as well.....what the hell are you a saleswoman of IT help desk support now??? Get outta here! Let me know verdict chic!

Well my sister has the opportunity to work from home a couple of days a week and she said she cant get anything done with the kids home all day. But at least you could take Justin out of after school care that saves you some money and then you get a big money savings in gas. I dont know about that commission crap but I would get all the details on that if I were you. Working from home takes alot of commitment and concentration so good luck on the decision.
